GILGIT: Two persons were killed and three injured when a car fell into the Indus River in Roundu area of Skardu on Monday evening. This was the second incident within a week on Gilgit-Skardu road.
Police said the rented car with five people on board was coming to Skardu from Islamabad. They said the vehicle plunged into the river while negotiating a sharp turn at Roundu, some 50 kilometers from Gilgit city.
The victims included the car’s driver, who belonged to Mansehra and whose name couldn’t be ascertained, and Mohammad Hussain of Ghanche district.
Mustafa, Shabir Hassan and Qamar Iqbal, residents of Ghanche district, were injured who were shifted to city hospital Skardu where their condition was stated to be stable. Police said they with the help of local people started efforts to fish out the bodies. However, the bodies could not be traced till Tuesday evening.
