KOHAT: Highway robbers shot dead a motorcyclist and injured another one on resistance on Marai-Oarkzai Agency road on Wednesday.
The injured, Sagheer Ali, told police he along with Mughees Ali was coming from Zera area of Orakzai Agency to their village in Kohat when they were stopped by three armed robbers on Marai road.
He said they were asked to hand over money and other things but they refused, prompting the robbers to fire at him and Mughees Ali, injuring them. He said Ali died while being taken to hospital. He said they were deprived of Rs40,000 cash, mobile phones and motorcycle.
The Ustarzai police registered case, and arrested two suspected persons.
Meanwhile, a police team raided a house in Jungle Khel area and arrested Asfandyar, an auto thief. He told police that he had sold a stolen motorcycle to his accomplice, Shabbir, for Rs15,000. Afterwards the police raided the house of Shabbir and seized the motorcycle from there. Shabbir was not at home at the time of raid.
In another case, the Riaz Mohammad Shaheed police recovered a stolen motorcycle from the house of Kamran, who was also arrested. The police registered case against Shabbir and Kamran.
HOUSE BURNT: Unknown men burnt the house of the alleged killers of a girl and a man here on Wednesday.
The police said nobody registered case against the incident, however police started investigation to ascertain whether the fire was intentional or was an accident. The police said the house was empty as the inmates had fled from the village when parents and relatives of the victims pursued the case.
A few days back, unknown men entered a house with the intention of robbery and allegedly strangled a 12-year-old girl, Laiba, and also killed her 35-year-old cousin, Aamir Naveed.
SUSPECTS ARRESTED: More than 50 suspects were arrested during an operation in the areas around the PAF base here on Wednesday.
Personnel of the Elite Force and police commandos arrested the suspects from Miangan colony.
The police recovered two Kalakovs, five shotguns, four pistols and thousands of cartridges from different houses during the search.
The police also registered cases against five residents under the House Act for renting their homes without letting the concerned police station know details about the inmates.
