GWADAR: A prominent poet of Balochi language, Rehmatullah Shohaz, was shot dead in Buleda area of Kech district on Monday.

According to Levies officials, Mr Shohaz was sitting at a shop in the main market of Buleda when he was attacked by gunmen on a motorcycle. He suffered multiple injuries and died on the spot.

Levies personnel took the body to hospital and later handed it over to relatives after legal formalities.

Mr Shohaz was one of the founding members of the Baloch National Movement and close to its leader Ghulam Mohammad Baloch. It may be recalled that Ghulam Mohammad Baloch was found dead in a deserted area near Turbat in May 2009 along with his two comrades.

Mr Shohaz, who belonged to Buleda, had been living in Karachi for some time. He had gone to his native town last week to celebrate Eidul Fitr with his relatives. A spokesman for the Balochis­tan chief minister, Jan Mohammad Buledi, condem­ned the murder and termed it an incident of targeted killing. He called for the arrest of killers.
