LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority teams on Thursday sealed famous food outlets and penalised several milkmen/sellers for lack of cleanliness and hygiene.

According to officials, a PFA team headed by Director Ms Ayesha Mumtaz sealed a production unit of Malmo Sweets and Bakers at Qatar Bund Road near Shahdara after it found the site lacking in drainage and sanitation facility besides having the expired condensed milk (khoya) and other food products.

It also sealed Regal Food and Haidri Restaurant in Iqbal Town, besides discarding 6,450 litres of milk after it checked 133 vehicles and men at the city entry points—Thokar Niaz Beg, Babu Sabu, Pubhattian Chowk and Saggian etc—and found the milk unhygienic in the light of lab tests.

A team of Data Ganj Bakhsh Town sealed Fri-Chicks on Sanda Road for serving the unhygienic food, lacking in appropriate cleanliness and drainage system and storing food products in the old and broken freezer.

It also imposed heavy fine on the owner of Lahore Cafeteria on The Mall for serving leftover meal among the customers and lack of cleanliness. It also served improvement notice on the cafeteria contractor of Lahore Zoo.

Moreover, a Shalimar Town-based team sealed Hello Food Products factory for using loose cooking oil, lack of cleanliness, using fake labels of famous brands on its products and doing business without licence.

It also arrested three workers on the spot besides getting a case registered against the factory owners.

The team also seized a huge quantity of substandard ketchup and other food items. The team again sealed Butt Murgh Channay, GT Road, after its owner unsealed his outlet without permission. It also got a case registered against the owner who was later arrested by police.

Meanwhile, Gulberg Town PFA team sealed Zakir Tikka restaurant in Faisal Town while Ravi and Samanabad towns’ teams imposed heavy fines on Sohni Murgh Chanay at Lajpat Road and Malik Burger respectively.

The teams also seized a huge quantity of unhygienic chips and burgers after they raided Faiz Lasani Burger and Khalid Chips’ outlets.
