PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company has set up a task force under the supervision of its general manager Niaz Mohammad to expedite restoration of infrastructure damaged by flash floods in Chitral as repair work has been accelerated to provide relief to the affected population.

The Pesco and Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (Pedo) said on Thursday that they were trying to restore the damaged electricity network in the flood-hit Chitral district and had sent teams to the district.

In a statement, the Pesco said that the rains and floods had badly affected the district’s electricity infrastructure, including 33 KV Dir-Chitral transmission line, while transformers, pylons and conductors had been washed away in floods.

It said that Pesco chief executive Hassan Fazil had constituted a task force to quickly complete restoration of power infrastructure.

It said that the task force head and his team had reached Chitral along with necessary equipment. However, it added that the difficult terrain, damaged roads and bridges were creating hurdles to the restoration process.

It also said that Pesco was striving for early recovery of the district’s power network and updating the federal government about the situation on daily basis. However, it noted that though the necessary heavy machinery had been provided, they were facing problems to shift this machinery to the sites as roads and bridges were washed away.

It also asked the power consumers in Chitral to cooperate with Pesco in the early restoration of power.
