KOHAT: The authorities have banned display of firearms in Kohat and Hangu as safety measures for re-polling for local governments.
According to official notification, retired Capt Kamran Ahmed Afridi and Syed Mujeebur Rehman, the deputy commissioners of Kohat and Hangu, have banned display of fire arms under Section 144 CrPC from July 27 to August 1 during re-polling at five sensitive polling stations.
The polling for local bodies was disturbed at three polling stations in Kohat and two in Hangu after some people removed ballot boxes in Shakardarra, Lachi and Dheri Banda and Shamal Din Banda area of Karbogha Sharif and Doaba on May 30, 2015.
According to the notification, hate speech, wall chalking, victory processions, rallies and celebrations, election related rallies as well as meetings without prior approval and issuance of written NOC from the district administration and district police officer have also been banned. The re-polling will be held on July 30.
Afghan refugees have also been ordered to remain confined to their respective camps. Other banned activities, according to the notification, include pillion riding, movement of non-residents within 400 meters of the vicinity of polling stations and carrying of mobile phones for all except the presiding officer of the polling station.
‘MARTYRS WEEK’: On the death anniversary of FC Commandant Safwat Ghayur, police have made arrangements to observe ‘martyrs week’ on August 4, 2015.
District Police Officer Mohammad Soheb told Dawn on Monday that preparations for the occasion were afoot and camps were set up in Lachi tehsil of Kohat, Gumbat area and Kohat city.
He said that the sacrifices rendered by police during the war against terrorism would be highlighted on the occasion. Registers have been placed in the camps for visitors to write about their memories associated with the killed policemen. Portraits of the killed policemen and banners inscribed with words of appreciation for the heroes have also been displayed at the camps.
