KARAK: Four people, a child among them, were killed and 17 others were injured when a passenger bus and a bank van collided on the Indus Highway near Karak city here on Tuesday.

Police said a Karachi-bound bus (IDS-7303) was overtaking a vehicle when it went out of the driver’s control and struck a van carrying cash to a bank.

As a result, three people going in the bank van and a child travelling with parents in the bus were killed and 17 others were injured.

According to eyewitnesses, after the collision the bus and the van fell into a roadside ditch. The dead and the injured were retrieved from the wreckage of the vehicles by local volunteers.

The victims were identified as van driver Zafarullah of Sabirabad, Mir Sahib Khan of Ghundi Mir Khankhel, Rastbaz Khan of Inzar Banda and eight-year-old Danyal of Shabqadar, Charsadda.

The dead and the injured were shifted to local hospitals. The police registered the case and started investigations.

Meanwhile, at least 11 people, women and children among them, were injured when a passenger coach going to Bannu overturned near Mansoor Ghar in the limits of Banda Daud Shah police station. The injured were shifted to tehsil headquarters hospital, Banda Daud Shah and Fauji Foundation hospital in Lachi.
