LAHORE: A Lahore sessions court on Friday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for film actor Meera.
Judicial Magistrate Wajid Minhas ordered that Meera should be arrested and presented in court on September 17 in an ongoing case filed against her by her alleged former husband Atiqur Rehman.
Atiq had earlier registered a case in court alleging that Meera married one Captain Naveed while she was already in wedlock with Atiq.
She was summoned for multiple court hearings which she did not attend, after which the sessions court issued the non-bailable arrest warrants.
After reports of a tiff between Meera and Atiq surfaced, she vehemently denied being married to him. Atiq alleged that the actor had threatened to have him killed, and had stolen furniture from a house which he had gifted to her. Meera, in turn, had also sought to register a case against Atiq for threatening and attempting to murder her.
When news of Meera's marriage to Captain Naveed came to light, Atiq in 2012 had appeared on the media stating the actress was unable to marry Capt Naveed since she was still married to him, and the court was yet to decide on the matter of their marriage.
Last year, a sessions court had ordered the FIA to register a case against Meera and Captain (r) Naveed. A petition was submitted claimed that a controversial video of the couple which had been leaked and posted on the internet had brought disrepute to the nation.
Meera had denied the video’s authenticity and called it an attempt to undermine her position and credibility.
