ISLAMABAD: Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq on Friday paid glowing tributes to middle-order batsman Younis Khan and said his performance was exemplary for the youngsters.

“Younis has played a lot of cricket with me and he is no doubt a great cricketer,” said Inzamam while talking to a leading TV channel. “I still remember his brilliant innings of 267 against India at Bangalore.”

“Younis is a self made person who has attained his current stature in cricket through sheer hard work and consistency that enabled him to beat my record as well as setting new records,” Inzamam added.

The former captain and hero of 1992 World Cup further said he wants Younis to achieve the milestone of 10,000 runs in Tests for Pakistan.

Younis has scored 8814 runs in 101 Tests with an average of 54.07 with 30 hundreds and 29 fifties while in One-Day Internationals he has scored 7240 runs in 264 ODIs with an average of 31.34 with seven hundreds and 48 fifties.

Inzmam also said Pakistan should play more Tests and ODI series against major international teams such as Australia, England, South Africa and India so that “our players could get exposure top level exposure.”
