Wasim Akram is undoubtedly one of those legends of cricket who bring honor and respect to Pakistan cricket. His achievements are self explanatory. Presence of legends like him gives the cricket lovers, a hope for the rise of Pakistan cricket to its glory once again.
We must respect those who portrait a positive image of Pakistan cricket across the globe.

He was by far an outstanding cricketer. Picked-up by the great Imran, he remained his understudy for many years which helped to polish off his substantial cricketing skills as a top all-rounder of his time & age.
Being a south paw,he had a natural advantage over his rivals which he fully exploited & gave new dimension, unique meaning & unthinkable twist to the theme & art of left arm fast swing bowling.
Combined with yet another debonair fast bowler Waqar Younus, he dominated the world of top level cricket for many memorable years. On their day, both of them were unplayable & top batsmen were actually afraid of their pace & swing bowling especially the toe breaking yorkers.
I had seen & followed the glittering career of Wasim Akram while based in UAE during the years 1984-2002 & watched some of his unforgettable performances at the famous Sharjah Cricket Stadium. However, his dubious involvement in betting while at the helm does not fare well with his global image and reputation.

During the mid 90s Wasim would sometimes make himself unavailable preferring Lancashire over Pakistan, which was really sad. The series losses at home against Australia, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and South Africa in the late 90s were really disappointing.
Wasim leading Pakistan to victory in the test series in England, India, World Series in Australia were his absolute high points. As a bowler he should have retired in 2000-1 season while he was still a top 10 bowler and not made himself available for 2003 world cup after a long hiatus from the game.

I lost respect for Wasim Akram when he was found guilty of match fixing by Justice Qayyum who also recommended he should never captain Pakistan. It is mainly for this reason my score is only 50% as whilst he is an outstanding cricketer he let his country down by cheating.

If we have not forgiven Saleem Malik in match fixing then why should we forgive Wasim Akram for match fixing which was proved in Justice Qayyum report. Moreover, caught red handed for taking drugs with his team men at the beach in West Indies is also not to be forgiven.

Justice Qayyum report should not be brought up in this discussion. Rule is "innocent until proven guilty" Wasim Akram was never charged/Trialed on the basis of that report.
So he is still a Hero...

@dawood I respect your sentiments, but Wasim Akram is not technically all rounder.
An all rounder is one who can get select in team with his both abilities either batting & bowling (e.g. Jack Kallis) or batting & wicket keeping (e.g. Dhoni & Sarfraz). Wasim was a bowler who can bat good down the order.

He was a magician, the ball used to swerve once left from his hand.It used to be a mesmerising sight to watch an exquisite, rhythmic bowling run up and swift delivery. He was a great exponent of swing bowling. In short a craftsman of par excellence.

Wasim akram is the greatest bowler of all time.....he was genuinely most naturally talented fast bowler ..with such a short run up and unique beautiful bowling action he could actualy move ball as per wish..but i lost little respect for him in 2004 when he began to give tips to indian bowlers like Irfan Pathan who later on went on to help india win first ever test series in pakistan. But nevertheleas he is definitely 1 of the greatest pak cricketers...also my favouritr

Sarfaraz then Imran khan and Waseem and Waqar changed the fast bowling game forever. Now even British are using reverse swing to win the Ashes.
Waseem and Waqar were undoubtedly were best fast bowlers of their era and pioneers in their craft.
No doubt he got blemishes when Pakistan couldn't win some matches that it expected to ...If you look at nineties no one had complete team like Pakistan had with fast/spin and batting by Inzamam, Saeed, Younis,Razaq, Azhar and yousuf were legends in their day yet we couldn't achieve the success that was expected.

It was the attitude to karachi people that damp his popularity too

I got 91 % as well but I have a very sweet memory with Wasim Akram which no body knows except Wasim Akram. One day before the 1992 world cup final at MCG during practice session, I told Wasim that he will be the man of the match. He smiled at that time but it was great to see him actually winning this award.
