KHAR: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has asked the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement to withdraw resignations of its lawmakers from assemblies.

Talking to journalists during his visit to Bajaur Agency on Thursday, he said that he was ready to mediate between the government and MQM to resolve the issue.

The JI chief said that resignations of MQM lawmakers from the Senate, National Assembly and Sindh Assembly owing their reservations over the Karachi operation were unjustified. The resignations would not resolve any issues, he added.

“I believed that the recent submission of resignations of MQM lawmakers is not the right way to protest and it would further suffer MQM as the decision is based only on emotions,” Mr Siraj said.

The JI chief said that resignation from parliament was legal and democratic right of any party and lawmakers. However, he said, the recent resignations of MQM lawmakers would not help the party as it was already in problems owing to its leader’s baseless and unnecessary statements.

Mr Siraj said that Karachi operation was going well as situation in the port city was becoming normal.
