SWABI: A local jirga on Friday expressed anguish over lack of staff in the Bacha Khan Medical Complex and health facilities in other hospitals in the district which has caused great hardships for patients.

Speaking at a meeting here, members of Islahi Jirga said it was responsibility of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa coalition government to fill up the vacant posts in all the hospitals and take steps for provision of facilities there.

Jirga president Gulmast Khan chaired the meeting.

However, the participants didn’t elaborate the number of posts lying vacant in the local hospitals. When a participant was asked by Dawn that how many posts of doctors were lying vacant, he simply said a lot of vacant posts had not been filled up due to unknown reasons.

The participants said provincial health minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, who belongs to the district, should take immediate steps for provision of all the required facilities to the district health centres.

“As Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led government has given top priority to the health sector we hope Shahram Tarakai would take practical steps in this connection without delay,” Gulmast Khan told this reporter.

He said there was an urgent need to provide facilities to the district headquarters hospital, basic health units and rural health centres as population of the district had increased manifold.

TEACHERS PROMOTED: The teachers of different cadres of public sector schools have been promoted to BPS-16 from BPS-15.

Sources said the service structure announced during the Awami National Party government had been kept intact and one-third of each cadre of teachers had been promoted to BPS-16.

As the posts of teachers fell vacant in each category either due to retirement of senior teachers or their deaths the teachers awaiting promotion get promoted, sources said.

They said central teachers (CT) had been promoted to senior CTs, physical education teachers (PET) to senior PETs, theology teachers to senior TT, Arabic teachers to senior ATs and drawing masters to senior DMs, awarding them BPS -16.

Similarly, senior CT teachers have been promoted to secondary school teachers.

The sources said SSTs would soon be promoted to the posts of subject specialists.
