MIRPURKHAS: Some villagers and a few members of a joint team of the CIA and Mehran police were slightly injured when residents of Kori village near Mirpurkhas city resisted a house-to-house search intended to recover a herd of stolen goats on Sunday.

Officials at the Mehran police station said that the joint team riding five vehicles surrounded a few houses in the village and tried to conduct a house-to-house search but the inmates offered resistance saying that they would not allow the operation until a search warrant was produced.

A brawl ensued when the police personnel tried to force their way into a house. A few persons from the two sides received bruises in the clash.

Annoyed over the resistance, police beat up Mir Mohammed Burfat, his brother Aijaz Burfat, Noor Mohammed Burfat and Mumtaz Burfat. Later, they booked Mir Mohammed Burfat, Imtiaz Burfat, Noor Mohammed Burfat, Mumtaz Burfat, Aijaz Burfat and Zaibun Nisa aka Zabori Burfat on the charges of attempting to murder, rioting, attack on police personnel and creating hurdles in official duty. They detained a number of villagers but showed arrest of only two of them, Noor Mohammed Barfat and Mumtaz Burfat.

Mir Mohammed Burfat and Aijaz Burfat were taken to an undisclosed location after which their families claimed that the police were demanding a huge amount of money for their release.

The police said that they wanted to pick up Imtiaz Ali Barfat for interrogation into a complaint about theft of goats but the villagers did not allow them to raid his house.
