CHARSADDA: A police head constable and his brother were killed when their rivals opened firing on them near Kangra in the limits of Battagram police station here on Saturday.
Police registered the dying statement of Mian Hidayat Shah, who said that he was going along with his brother head constable Mian Ahad Jan on a motorcycle when their rivals Suhail, his brother Munsif and accomplice Muqarrab attacked them.
He said that Mian Ahad Jan, who was posted in University of Peshawar, died on the spot while he himself suffered critical injuries.
The injured, Hidayat Shah, was shifted to a hospital from where doctor referred him to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Police registered a case against the three suspects and started raids for their arrest.
TOBACCO: Assistant Commissioner Noor Wali Khan has directed the tobacco purchasing companies to ensure buying fresh yield from the growers at the fixed prices till September 15.
He was speaking at a meeting of the tobacco growers, representatives of tobacco purchasing companies and Pakistan Tobacco Board here on Saturday. The meeting reviewed the problems faced by the growers.
The growers informed the meeting that the tobacco companies created hurdles for them and refused to buy tobacco from them on the pretext of low quality yield, which landed the poor farmers in difficulties.
The assistant commissioner directed the tobacco companies to purchase the crop from the growers at the official rate till September 15 and refrain from creating problems for them otherwise legal action would be initiated against the companies.
