US urges India, Pakistan to resume talks soon

WASHINGTON: Expressing disappointment at the cancellation of the proposed talks between the National Security Advisers of India and Pakistan, the United States has urged the two neighbours to resume formal dialogue soon.
“We are disappointed the talks will not happen this weekend and encourage India and Pakistan to resume formal dialogue soon,” said State Department spokesman John Kirby.
The US official, however, noted that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi did have a “constructive interaction” in the Russian town of Ufa, last month.
“We were encouraged by the constructive interaction between the leaders of India and Pakistan earlier this year at Ufa, particularly the announcement of dialogue between the countries’ National Security Advisers,” Mr Kirby said.
On Saturday evening, Pakistan called off the NSA-level talks scheduled for Sunday, after Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj warned the Pakistani delegation not to meet Kashmiri leaders during their presence in New Delhi.
Pakistan had earlier reiterated its offer to attend the talks without any pre-conditions.

Shimla agreement took place in the 70s. There was a UN resolution passed years before that where India was urged to provide the right of self determination to the people of Kashmir. India always forget the UN resolution very conveniently.

Neither Pakistan, US, EU, UN...No one will be able to get India to budge on its Kashmir stance. 60 years and 3 generations have passed, not to mention millions of dollars spent in arms, millions of dollars lost in property damage and millions of lives lost on both sides. Your Kashmir obsession is the biggest reason for your foreign policy failures and the general negative image of Pakistan in the world. Do yourself a favour, forget Kashmir! There are way more important things that can be discussed which can help people from both countries.

No talks are possible before punishment of perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai.It is always reiterated that India doesn't give concrete proof in the case.Logically the attack was orchaestrated in pakistan so how will anyone find the proofs in India.It is responsibility of pakistany agencies to find concrete proof.

There is no point in talking with Pak any more, India should seal the LOC and all the borders increase the vigilance and march towards the growth... thats the best thing.. anyways US is going to stop the AID soon.. India Just need to sit back and watch as Pak suffocates due to their failure in boosting their economy no need to do anything.

@AXH bhai mere, I would advise you to read the facts correctly and do not put half facts. UN resolution was made in 1948. And Shimala agreement was done in 1971. As per UN rules, the UN resolution is overruled if both parties come up with their own resolution. Therefore, Shimal agreement is the only solution left. In fact, in recent list of outstanding issue of UN, UN delist Kashmir in that list. Please google it or ready it from authenticate source like UN website or Wikipedia.

@AXH ....UN resolution has been removed from the UN list of disputed territories as both India and Pakistan did not follow the required rules. As per UN both India and Pak are required to pull out their armies to allow for a fair plebiscite. Pakistan did not agree for this.

Comparison, Who is with"+/-" due to failure of NAS meet.
1. It doesn't make difference to IND coz it don't effect much to Indian economy. India's export is already 15 times than PAK export (base on 2013-2014 data) (IND 1, PAK 0)
2. Cross border firing effects both so, cease fire doesn't mean benefit India alone. (IND 1, PAK 1)
3. If, peace being created among both definitely PAK would be at max benefit, it will boost its economy. More export from PAK (IND 1, PAK 0)
4. PAK face more terrorist attack than India. (IND 1, PAK 0)
5. Threat of nuclear war is very rare

If Pak want to solve the K issue, then it has to bend rules.. Come to talks and discuss.. and slowly build the trust. It must be also willing to sacrifice its part of Kashmir (both Pak and India can not get Kashmir land from China anyway).

@AXH UN resolution was none-binding for one and second Kashmir is no longer considered disputed territory by UN. Shimala agreement was signed by both Pakistan and India and therefor must be followed. If agreements signed by both governments are not adhere to no sense in making new agreements.

@Kiran agreement through talks can relieve 7 lakh Indian army men from Kashmir which can hugely reduce your defence budget, second India can have easy land access to central and west Asia, third India can reciprocally increase business in Pakistan, fourth there would be tension free established boundary with Pakistan. All these advantages can provide a bouncing socioeconomic progress both in India and Pakistan.
