KARACHI: A federal anti-corruption court here on Thursday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Yousuf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Amin Fahim, and others.
The order against the former prime minister and the senior PPP leader was issued after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented a challan (charge sheet) with 12 new cases — relating to multi-billion rupee scandal in the Trade Development Authority (TDAP) — registered against the two before the court.
Cases against the two PPP leaders, some former and serving senior officials of the TDAP and others were registered by FIA for their alleged involvement in approving and disbursing fraudulent trade subsidies of billions of rupees to several fake companies through fictitious claims and backdated cheques.
Earlier last year, Gilani and Fahim were granted pre-arrest bail by the court in a dozen other pending cases, also related to the TDAP scandal.

With the 12 new cases registered against the two PPP leaders by the FIA, the total cases registered against Gilani and Fahim in the TDAP scandal come to 24.

The court had previously issued notices to Gilani and Faheem, requiring them to appear before it in relation with the 12 news cases against them. However, the notices went ignored.
Accepting the FIA challan during today's hearing, judge of the special federal anti-corruption court-I, Mohammad Azeem, issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the arrest of Gilani and Fahim and directed the police to arrest the accused and present them before the court in the next hearing.

Yesterday, in what has been described as the first major action against the PPP leadership during the ongoing Karachi operation, Dr Asim Hussain, a former federal minister and close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, was taken into custody.
While the National Accountability Bureau denied having anything to do with Dr Hussain’s detention, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah condemned the arrest.
The action came a day after Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif had directed the authorities to break the “evil nexus between terrorism, criminal mafias, violence and corruption” to achieve the objective of ensuring a peaceful and terror-free Karachi.

when in Islamabad an operation carried out against terror factors residing in Kachi Basti, then PTI as the one opposing the decision and were going there for support. But ahst off to Nawaz in his mind he had that there are terror elements that needs to be eradicated and he did it. Only simple thing, had IK was a PM, we would not have witnessed eradication of terrorism but supoort for that and it might ahve put Pakistan in very difficult situation. My late father, a senior banker, helped FIA ferret out the details and documents of the fraud and embezzlement done by these two in TDAP case. Usurprisingly, nothing happened to them and they are still roaming around freely while my father passed away from the stress he had to go through sitting every night uptill 2AM in his office to help FIA..Sorry to say but I am long done with this country :-)

It seems that all coruption made by PPPP non of PMLN minister grab in any scam and i am sure they also involved in corruption... atleast started But do we assure ourself that all these politicians get concviction or jailed over these scams because we have very weak judicial system and unfortunately these politicians have link in any areas like prosecution.. Judges,... Civil services etc etc...
Our former President is best example who served 14 years and then become president...

The nation eagerly awaits the arrest news of these two and some others involved in mega corruption. Economic corruption is no less a crime than terrorist acts and so hope no kind of leniency is shown towards these self proclaimed "gentlemen" !!
Though the arrest warrants are non-bailable but still they will try their best to avoid arrest and get bail before arrest on one pretext or other. Like Dr Asim they may also claim that they are patients of BP etc.

we can never get justice if a nominated person is treated like a VIP in fraudulent cases, if both Gillani and Fahim ignored notices, so what though our FIA, Police etc were well aware where do they reside and an action should have happened against them last year ?. these agencies gave them time for one year, why ?. just because they are MNAs, does MNA is above the law ?... with such event what kind of message we are spreading in the society ?.... a commoner does not get even one hour and these proven criminals sitting in assemblies get legal protections.... why ?

they should also go after NS & others in noon who have laundered out huge sums of money and not paid income taxes on it, & have so many corruption case against them. This would not leave any excuse for PPP & MQM supporters, that they are being singled out, while NOON is getting better treatment.
If every political party leader involved in money laundering and evasion of personal income taxes is not dealt with equitably, the entire exercise is likely to fail, because the supporters of the PPP & MQM would have an excuse.
