LAHORE: The Aitchison College’s ‘sacked’ principal on Thursday was stopped from entering the institution by the administration.
Dr Agha Gazanfar had come to the college to take charge of the principal after the court reinstated him. However, the security personnel reportedly on the order of acting principal Syed Amir Hussain stopped him from entering the college. He was also not allowed to enter his official residence on the college premises.
After being denied entrance, Mr Ghazanfar left for Racecourse police station and filed a complaint against the administration for “illegally” stopping him from entering the college despite having with him the court order. The police however did not ‘rush’ to take action on his complaint.
Talking to reporters, Mr Ghazanfar said how could the college administration stop him from taking the charge of the principal in spite of the court order. He said the administration had committed contempt of court and he would go to the High Court to file a case against it.
On the other hand, both the Governor House and the Aitchison College preferred to keep mum on the the issue. “We do not know why the college administration stopped Mr Agha from entering the college. The administration must be advised ‘legally’ as it is not easy to commit contempt of court if Afgha Ghazanfar has been reinstated,” a source in the college told Dawn.
He said since Governor Rafique Rajwana, who is the chairman of the board of governors of Aitchison College, was in Europe the administration would not take decision on its own. “The governor is returning on Sept 8 and without his presence the board may not take any decision in this respect,” he said.
The board of governors headed by Mr Rajwana had removed Mr Ghazanfar while he was abroad last month citing “serious administrative negligence”. Ghazanfar had reportedly refused to grant admissions to the relatives of influential people of the province.
