PESHAWAR: The National Junior Squash Championship in two different age groups of under 17 and 19 will be commencing at the PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex here from Sept 7.

This was stated by KP Squash Association president and former world champion Qamar Zaman while addressing a press conference at the Lala Rafique Sports Arena, Qayyum Sports Complex here on Friday.

Senior vice-president Tariq Mehmood, KP Squash Association secretary Ihsanullah Khan and chief referee Munawar Zaman were also present on the occasion.

Qamar, who was recently honoured by the Pakistan Squash Federation with a Pride of Performance award, thanked Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman for honouring the KP Squash Association for holding a large number of squash events.

He said they organised 22 events last year, including national senior, national junior men and women championships besides giving due attention for holding various age group tournaments.

The former player added that the federation was striving hard for the promotion of squash in Pakistan by providing squash players all facilities.

“Winning of the Pride of Performance award means our efforts have been recognised by the Pakistan Squash Federation.”

He said despite lack of sponsorship, the KP Squash Association was constantly holding its activities on regular basis.

The former player added that they organised 11 tournaments in the first six months and have planned 10 more events for this year.

He said they had requested KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to at least approve four squash courts for Peshawar which had produced seven world champions.

Qamar said that was astonishing that no funds were allocated in the current fiscal year for construction of squash courts.
