Sri Lanka spinner Kaushal reported for suspect action

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal has been reported for a suspect bowling action during the third Test against India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old, with a distinctive high-knee run-up, has played six Tests for Sri Lanka and has been earmarked as the island country's spin spearhead when Rangana Herath, 37, eventually retires.
Kaushal has already taken two five-wicket hauls in his career and picked up 13 scalps in the three Tests against India, the third highest tally behind Herath and paceman Dhammika Prasad (both 15) for the Sri Lankans.
“The match officials' report, which was handed over to the Sri Lanka management, cited concerns about the legality of the 22-year-old's bowling action,” the governing body said in a statement.
Kaushal will have to undergo a test on his bowling action within 14 days but will be allowed to continue bowling in international cricket until the results are known.
Sri Lanka are not in action until October when they host West Indies in a series featuring two Test matches, three one-day internationals and two Twenty20s.
Sri Lanka lost their first series at home to India in 22 years when the Virat Kohli-led tourists fought back from an opening defeat to win 2-1 on Tuesday.

There should be end to the shame of the ICC, if they see someone who is a good spin bowler, they get him banned. What a shame. When will the ICC become a true independant body and not take orders from we all know who.....

@nainesh Yes, but Pakistan cricket is not part of the BIG 3. Anyone who might pose a challenge to the hegemony to the BIG 3 will pay the price thru the corrupt mafia known as ICC.
Look at how your Ishant Sharma behaved throughout the SL series YET he being the instigator all along was handed the same punishment as the first time SL cricketers who were responding in kind to Ishant. Utterly disrespectful to the great hospitality shown by the SL.

@nainesh Im calling a spade a spade, what i know is cricket has gone down and suffered as a result of India's muscle flexing in the day to day cricket affairs, I am all up for India taking the largest revenue chunk, they deserve it, but that does not give it the right to control, which players get banned, who the chairman of a cricket board should be (in the case of Haroon Lorgat), penalise countries which broadcast with Zee, which rules are applied to cricket etc. And how can the ICC endorse a tournament like the IPL, where the BCCI is openly stopping Pakistan to participate, if this happened in SA in the 60,70 and 80's, it was called racism, now India doing it under the banner of political difference, the ICC should be neutral and only endorse tournament where all members are allowed to play freely.

@nisar: dude IPL is a domestic tournament, ICC has no say in it. If it would have been endorsed by ICC, it would become ICC tournament not BCCI's, it would get special place in FTP which it doesn't gets. It's like you qaid e azam trophy where PCB is responsible for the series not ICC, dude get your head checked. As bowler's action is concerned, INDIA has robust facility where bowlers with doubtful action are reported earlier in their career and rectified at young age, even your bowlers are sent here for tests. Apart from INDIA aUS and eng are among only other nations with such facilities NZ and SA have frequently used those facilities. If don't want ajmals to be reported get these facilities in karanchi or Lahore and then see how many of your bowlers are reported.

very funny that SL bowler gets reported and everyone's opinion against BCCI comes out. BCCI are no angels but indirectly supporting Saeed Ajmal- come on people, 42 degrees.Even to the naked eye it was obvious. And as far as Ashwin is concerned you cannot get a straighter elbow.

Ashwin is a bigger chucker then any bowler currently playing international cricket. I wonder when ICC (Indian Cricket Council) will take notice of that. This new ICC is distroying cricket.

Kaushal was reported for suspected action by a third umpire from New Zealand. Further, his record against India is ordinary. Where does BCCI come into picture? Also, BCCI banned Pragyan Ojha for suspect action & he underwent the same testing in Chennai also like Saeed Ajmal and Mohammed Hafeez. Sunil Narine, Kane Williamson Marlon Samuels, Shane Shillingford, Sachitra Senanayake, Prosper Utseya, Sohag Gazi were banned. Further, Harbhajan Singh and Rajesh Chauhan both were reported for suspect action years back and had to undergo testing. There is a limit to conspiracy theory.
And if you really want to know why Indian bowlers are not reported frequently for suspect actions, here is the article. It is because BCCI actively tries to weed out the bowlers with suspect action and correct them in their early phases before they start playing international cricket.
