KOHAT: Deputy commissioner Zahir Shah on Wednesday said anti-polio campaign would be carried out in Kohat district every month to ensure elimination of the crippling disease.

“From now on, the vaccination of children against polio will take place every month on regular basis to contribute to the nationwide efforts to eliminate the crippling disease,” he told a meeting of the district polio elimination committee here.

The meeting was attended by additional deputy commissioner Fakharuddin, assistant commissioner Ali Asghar, district health officer Dr Khaliq, medical superintendent of Kohat District Hospital, and representatives of World Health Organisation and Unicef.

The deputy commissioner said all relevant officials and health workers should diligently discharge their duty for the protection of children in the district against polio.

Zahir Shah said vaccination refusal cases would be tackled by educating parents about the importance of administration of anti-polio drops to their children.

He said the incidence of such cases had significantly dropped but still, there was room to work on it.
