Asif, Sajjad knocked out in pre-quarters of 6-Reds World Snooker

KARACHI: Pakistan’s campaign in the Sangsom 6-Reds pro-am world snooker championship ended on a sour note in Bangkok on Thursday when big names Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad were knocked out in the pre quarter-finals.

Asjad Iqbal, the third Pakistani cueist, made his exit in the last-32 round.

Hong Kong’s Marco Fu halted former IBSF world champion Asif’s run registering an emphatic 6-2 victory in the best of 11 frames pre quarters encounter. Asif, who had a good start, could manage to win one more frame and with one exception, lost the five without even scoring a single point.

Fu won the battle 1-39, 64-0, 34-31, 37-0, 47-0, 44-0, 0-71, 50-0.

England’s Mark Selby also cut losing finalist of the Bangalore’s IBSF world championship Mohammad Sajjad to size winning by an identical 6-2 margin.

The Englishman was home 0-63, 46-9, 39-29, 49-12, 41-27, 22-34, 58-17, 39-0.

Earlier in the last-32 round, Asif sent Thailand’s Tanawat Tirapongpaiboon packing 6-2 (69-0, 19-56, 39-23, 50-0, 37-20, 36-20, 1-38, 41-0) while Sajjad demolished Scotland’s Graeme Dott 6-3 (20-50, 49-0, 1-40, 48-21, 15-44, 37-7, 49-36, 51-17, 35-4).

Ryan Day of the Wales coasted to 6-3 victory over Asjad Iqbal the scores being 0-75, 0-76, 37-16, 36-29, 71-0, 0-46, 65-0, 50-0, 72-0.
