BAHAWALPUR: The division has so far topped the nine divisional headquarters in the province with regards to performance of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA).
This was stated by PFA divisional chairman and federal parliamentary secretary for communication, MNA Alam Dad Laleka, who presided over a meeting of all stockholders at the commissioner’s office on Saturday.
According to a handout, the chairman directed the people running eateries and restaurants to ensure all formalities necessary to run such a business were followed. He added they should get prior permission for running a business and certificates for their workers from the health department for serving hygienic food and that there would be no compromise on customers’ health.
The MNA asked administrative officials to focus on monitoring quality of products at confectionaries, food at hotels and restaurants as well as oil/ghee, flour and milk. He warned that no negligence would be tolerated and the officials found guilty would be taken to task.
Earlier, Commissioner Saqib Zafar in his briefing said during the past two weeks the PFA had imposed a fine of Rs8 million on restaurants in the division, while 328 others had been sealed. He further said teams had seized 5,000kg of unhygienic meat, arrested 74 people and registered first information reports against 114 persons.
The meeting was also attended by MPAs Kazim Hussain Peerzada and Mehmoodul Hassan Cheema.
CHEQUE: Minister of State for Education Baleeghur Rehman on behalf of the Water and Power Development Authority presented a cheque for Rs2.5 million as compensation to the son of a lineman of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), Muhammad Akram, who had recently died on duty.
The minister also assured the boy of a job in Mepco.
