KOHAT: The house of a teacher was partially damaged and a boy sustained minor injuries in a bomb blast in Ustarzai Payan village on Hangu Road here on Thursday.

The bomb disposal unit which visited the scene said that an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted at the main entrance of the residence of the schoolteacher, Irshad Ali, which exploded with a bang.

The Ustarzai police registered the case against unknown miscreants and have started investigations.

Meanwhile, Jarma police seized a big quantity of drugs and arrested a man and woman on Thursday.

The police said that they stopped a car (LEE-8590) going to Mianwali from Orakzai Agency at Muslimabad on the Indus Highway and on checking seized 15 kilogrammes of fine quality hashish and 1.12kgs of opium. An alleged drug dealer, Mehhboob Khan, a resident of Mianwali, was also arrested at the scene.

However his accomplice, identified as Khalid Masood, managed to run away.

They claimed that the same police party has recovered four kilogrammes of hashish from a woman, Rail Bibi, belonging to Nari Panoos area of Karak. They said that the woman was carrying the consignment in a coaster.

The police presented both the accused before the court which sent them to prison. The police have registered cases against both them.

NAZIM CHAIRS MEETING: District nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad asked the officials of government departments on Thursday to observe duty timings and serve the people with devotion. He warned that corrupt and lethargic officials would be punished to set an example for others.

He said this while chairing a meeting of heads of the line departments at the district council hall here. He said that he would not compromise on late arrivals in offices and closing before time. The officials briefed him about their work and assured him of their cooperation to jointly work for the betterment of public.

The nazim also said that honest and hardworking officials would be awarded gifts.
