SUKKUR: Sukkur police on Friday carried out a search operation of several seminaries as part of the National Action Plan, aimed at rooting out religious extremism, sectarianism and terrorism.

No arrests were made but records and ‘objectionable’ literature from a few of the seminaries were seized for a scrutiny/examination after interrogation with the faculty and students, the police said.

The police team led by City DSP Mushtaq Shah collected detailed information about clerics and their pupils during their visit to mosques and seminaries including Jamia Ashrafia, Jamia Ghousia, Allah Wali Masjid, Jamia Masjid Bunder Road and Jamia Hammadia & Madressah Manzil Gah.

Similar search operations were carried out in many seminaries functioning in Rohri, Pannu Aqil, Kandhra, Salehpat and others towns of the district, Sukkur SSP Tanveer Tunio said.
