Punjab govt officials intimidating PTI workers before by-polls: Imran

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan alleged on Saturday that government officials affiliated with the provincial government of Punjab are involved in campaigning against his party and intimidating his party workers before the upcoming by-polls for NA-122 and NA-154.
Imran Khan made these claims while addressing a press conference in Lahore.
“Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Superintendent of Police (SP) Umar Virk is involved in campaigning against PTI, and is performing these services for the incumbent government in Punjab,” alleged Khan.
The PTI chief also claimed that Umar Virk is involved in threatening his party workers, and is encouraging criminal elements to intimidate his workers, in order to stop them from performing their party duties in light of the upcoming by-polls in Lahore.
Imran, during his press conference further alleged that he has evidence that Virk also threatened Ghaffar Gujjar, a PTI worker who was recently shot, on the phone two days before he was attacked.
“The government of Punjab under PML-N is using the provincial police as its enforcers and thugs, and are using them to influence the upcoming by-polls in the province,” added the PTI chief.
“We also have video evidence that a District Police Officer (DPO) is campaigning for PML-N in Hafizabad.”
Imran Khan said that his party will contact the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Inspector-General (IG) of Punjab police to initiate legal proceedings against the individuals involved in intimidation and harassment of his party workers.
Imran Khan also said that he would extensively campaign in support of his party’s candidates in NA-122 and NA-154.

“I visited the constituency of NA-122 today and the response was very favourable, and the people of the constituencies support PTI,” stated the PTI chief.
“I will give my total support to Aleem Khan in NA-122, as we want to make a point and defeat rigging,” added Imran.
He further added that he is already a member of the National Assembly and won from three different constituencies, but he had asked ECP to investigate rigging in NA-122 as he wanted the people to see it.
The PTI chief once again reiterated his demand for the deployment of Pakistan Army during the by-polls and said "I do not trust the provincial police of Punjab to perform their election duties in an honest manner."
Imran Khan had announced earlier to hold a sit-in in front of ECP in Islamabad if its members do not tender their resignations by October 4.
The ECP on August 22 had de-notified National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq after receiving a copy of the decision announced by Punjab election commission's tribunal.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq had defeated PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the 2013 general elections from NA-122 after which PTI had challenged the results.

It is political culture of Pakistan and PTI should re-adjust to ground realities and function within that given environment.yes, there are bad ploys in police in every province and these bad boys are recruited on political affiliations so they have to return political favours. PTI should register a criminal case against such elements.

I want go into the wider issues around PTI, PMLN rigging, corruption etc etc - because that has been discussed to death - although my personal views are that corruption will only end when the masses either refuse to pay or refuse to receive bribes.
That is the real challenge - and getting rid of NS will just put someone else that is just as corrupt in the seat. PTI has no problem accepting former PMLN corrupts into their folds, so how can they really clean up the country.
However, your point on the funeral of a brave soldier, a shaheed, is EXTREMELY valuable.
IK and PTI embarrassed themselves last year with the dharna, the APS attacks and you would have thought they would have learned a lesson.
So whilst kids and soldiers are being murdered by terrorists, IK is arguing about intimidation in a by-poll.
Don't forget until last week the PTI candidate was actually a member of PMLN - as reported by Dawn. How come he suddenly joined PTI and got the party ticket?

You are forgetting something: PML-N candidates were disqualified from NA-122 and NA-154 due to massive "irregularities" but only after intense anti-rigging campaign by Imran Khan. These by-elections vindicate Khan's anti-rigging stance.
BTW, PML-N will use all means (police, criminals, money) to have Iyaz Saddiq re-elected from NA-122. Instead of street protests, Khan is using the right approach of taking his evidence to ECP and IG.

Regarding deseating of Ayaz Sadiq, if it was based on rigging by him then Election Tribunal would have disqualified him from contesting the bye election. PTI objected to the nomination of Ayaz Sadiq in the bye election for his rigging. EC asked them to produce evidence but PTI could not and so Ayaz Sadiq papers were accepted. Similarly Kh saad Rafique was also deseated and not disqualified from election because of irregularities and not rigging. The candidare who rigs election is not allowed to contest the election again.

Pmln will use all the resources of Punjab and federal govt to win the elections and then claim that they had won the seat in general elections. Unfortunately the election commision is also helping the govt. and not taking any notice of prepoll rigging and election rules violations. As mentioned in Dawn the son in law of one of the officials has been sent on posting abroad in disregard of merit and inspite of not being suitably qualified. But no one will resign and no one leaves the seat voluntarily in Pakistan.

@AQ learn to read and think! No tribunal has mentioned rigging. Not ONE!! The basis of the decisions has been irregularities ie procedural lapses by a semi-competent ECP. This is well known to happen and not just in Pakistan. In the 2002 US election (the richest and most advanced country in the world) irregularities in a key state held up the presidential election results for weeks. So irregularities are nothing new and trying to minimize them is a no-brainer.
However IK has not been able to stomach the 2013 defeat and knowing full well there was no systematic rigging, stated agitation, knowing also that to people like you the difference between irregularities and rigging would be too subtle to fathom.
Give it up. We are tired. Ask your leader to let the process run and wait for 2018. All this nonsense is not going to get him anything.

If PTI loses NA 122 and NA 154, then whole fault rests with Imran Khan, but he is not allowed to compaign. If he does not compaign, PTI will lose. On the other hand Nawaz and Shahbaz does not need to compaign as same is being done through police, district management and other provincial departments under shahbaz shareef. This is called systematic rigging. It would have made sense to bar Pervaiz Khattak and IK from comaigning in KPK. This is the system we have in our country, and if this does not change then either we have the shareefs ruling us for next 1000 years unless some general bandooq ali khan kick them out again.

Check the budget of KPK and tell me how many of the 350 dams have materialized since Imran khan came to power. Bhatt pmln rcruited thousands of tehseeldars in 90's for the bypoll of 2015 ?what a great logic of PTI supporters ... and if thats true , i am not seeing PTI win for another 50 years because PMLN must have planned beyond 2050 elections already, as this is the longest tenure they have got so far
