QUETTA: An anti-terrorism court adjourned on Wednesday the hearing of Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case to Oct 21 after recording testimonies of two witnesses.

Former DSP of Dera Bugti Abdul Fatah and Constable Mohammad Musa of Sibi police’s crime branch testified before judge Jan Mohammad Gohar.

The lawyer of former Balochistan home minister, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, one of the accused in the case, submitted an application for one-day exemption from attending the case proceedings for his client, which was accepted by the court.

Former federal interior minister Aftab Sherpao and the lawyers of former president retired General Pervez Musharraf and Nawabzada Jamil Bugti, son of Akbar Bugti and the complainant in the case, appeared in the court.

Baloch nationalist leader Akbar Bugti was killed with his companions in an army operation in Tartani area of Kohlu district on Aug 26, 2006. Mr Musharraf and Mr Sherpao are among the nominated accused in the case.

Talking to reporters after the hearing, Mr Musharraf’s counsel Syed Akhtar Shah said that there was no concrete evidence of his client’s involvement in the death of Akbar Bugti. He claimed that Akbar Bugti had died in “an accident” as the cave he was hiding in had collapsed on him.

Jamil Bugti’s lawyer Sohail Rajpurt said that despite passage of nine years to Akbar Bugti’s murder, not a single accused had been arrested and the prosecution was yet to present proofs about the murder in the court. He called for punishment to all accused.
