84th Urs festival of Syed Saman Shah celebrated in Badin

BADIN: The 84th Urs of Hazrat Syed Saman Shah Sarkar went under way at his shrine some 6km off the Pangrio town of Sindh's Badin district.
Syed Saman Shah is also known as ‘Larr Jo Laal’ or Pir of roosters.
Adviser to the chief minister on Auqaf Dr Abdul Qayoom Soomro inaugurated the six-day celebrations for the in Pangrio town on Tuesday
Soomro said, "Hazrat Syed Saman Shah was one of the greatest saints of the 20th century due to which tens of thousands of people gather every year at his shrine to pay homage and fulfill their vows."
The large number of the devotees from various parts of Sindh and other provinces poured in at the venue, mostly carrying the roosters, which has been the main feature of the saint, as according to the area people, the Sufi saint was very fond of roosters.
The devotees sacrifice the roosters and cook them in rice to distribute as langar (free public meal) among poor people.
Hundreds of makeshift stalls of sweets, traditional costumes, toys, books and other cultural items have been set up in the mela.
The theatres from various areas of Punjab have been set up with the performers to entertain the visitors.
Popular singers and artists also arrived at the venue to perform during the Urs celebrations.

With awesome writing & photographs, I have got a thorough idea about the place & shrine regarding 84 Urs festival of Syed Saman Shah celebrated in Badin. Any religious celebration,facilitates to scale up brotherhood feeling. I have observed Dawn as newspaper has been doing splendid work. On other day Dawn has marvelously written with sublime photographs about Lord Ganesh immersion. Hindus believe in deity and different forms of God, Muslims believe with out any form, Catholic Christians believe Mother Mary and Jesus & photos are kept, Sikhs believe Gurunanakji and Guru Gobind Singhiji & keep their photos. So believe performing prayer etc., purely individual. For this no argument and conflict should take place. Some hardcore fundamentalists of all the religions make hue and cry. Being Bengali Hindu I like Durga Puja (Dussera) but I have visited many times to Ajmir Sharif (Muslim shrine) & many Dargas also Vatican city. Indians & Pakistanis culturally very close, just brother .

Not good. I don't think an Urs should be like that they should pray for them not to sing, Dance around the Tomb... Don't make everything a thing of Fun.

This Piri Fakree has kept our society backward, while the fundamentalism has pushed it to the other extreme. We have lost intellectuals scholarships that was once the greatest pride of Sindh.

@adeeb I do agree that these festivities have large economic aspect, but we should also celebrate the intellectual scholarships that these great Darwashes provided to society and made us tolerant of each other.

@S CHATTERJEE Many Hindus visit Pir Shrine in India. Even my village has a Muslim Pir Shrine and we visit it every Thursday to offer chaddar. There are no Muslims in my village but we have maintained this Shrine well.

@Ravi I disgaree on a Hindu always belonging to India which was created in 1947. There are Hindus who have never been inside India for generations across the world. Hindus in Pakistan belong to Pakistan and are Pakistanis. Hindus of Fiji, Madagascar, Kenya, Nepal, US are all non-Indian citizens.

Liked this article. However, all those preaching the values of Islam should stop judging.
Lets give a rare occasion of enjoyment to all those unprivileged people who otherwise have a very tough life. In addition, it gives a chance to do some business for many individuals. Not everything has to be judged in the context of religion.
