TIMERGARA: Speakers at a function here on Thursday called upon youth to get first aid training to cope with man-made and natural disasters.

The function was arranged by the administration of Timergara Campus of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan in collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to mark the World First Aid Day.

Students, teachers, journalists, social activists and political workers attended the function which was addressed by PRCS first aid provincial coordinator Kifayatullah, additional assistant commissioner Jamalud Din, first aid trainer Ubaidullah, disaster manager Wahidullah and Mohammad Islam.

They said that Sept 12 was declared the World First Aid Day but owing to some constraints the campus was observing it on Oct 1. They said that thousands of PRCS volunteers were providing free services to the victims of man-made and natural disasters throughout the country.

The speakers said that owing to growing incidents of disasters like floods, earthquakes, violence and wars, common people needed some skills to protect their lives by taking adequate measures.

A total of 25 volunteers, who had recently completed first aid training, were provided with shields and certificates on the occasion. The volunteers also demonstrated skills.

PPP WORKERS JOIN PTI: Several workers of Pakistan People’s Party including its village council vice chairman Abdul Ghaffar Khan on Thursday announced to quit their party and join Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in Koto Shehzadi area.

They made the announcement during a function held at the residence of Abdul Ghaffar Khan which was addressed by PTI provincial organiser Fazal Mohammad Khan, Bashir Khan, PTI district president Fakhruz Zaman, Insaf Students Federation provincial president Ashfaq Munir and others.

WATER SUPPLY SCHEMES: Mohammad Ayaz Mohmand, the assistant commissioner, on Thursday examined several water supply schemes in Ahmad Galai, Dherai and Soghalay Talash and expressed anger over use of substandard pipes in the projects.

He told journalists that contractors often used substandard material while executing projects in remote areas as they thought no one would examine it.

He said that the contractors of the water supply schemes were strictly warned of legal action.

The official said that a detailed report for further action would be sent to provincial chief secretary.
