MULTAN: Funeral prayers for former MNA Asad Murtaza Gilani, also nephew of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who had died in a stamped in Mina during Haj, were offered here on Monday.

His body was flown from Saudi Arabia to Multan where his family members received it on Monday.

The prayers, led by Hamid Saeed Kazmi, were held at Multan Cricket Ground. A large number of people, including Javed Hashmi, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood, Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Saddaruddin Rashidi, MNA Malik Rabbani Khar, Shaukat Basra and Safdar Abbasi, attended his funeral prayers.

Later, he was buried in the compound of the shrine of Hazrat Musa Pak Shaheed. Wajahat Husain Gilani, father of the deceased Asad Murtaza, is the caretaker of the shrine.

Asad Gilani was elected MNA on a PPPP ticket in 2002 but he defected to the PPPP-Patriot. He was 48.

His qul will be held at 9am on Tuesday (today) at his residence on Gahus-i-Azam Road.
