MULTAN: The Multan Pool Rounds of the 11th DAWN In Education Spelling Bee Competition will begin on Wednesday (today) at the Multan Arts Council auditorium. It is the largest school event in Pakistan, organised under the DAWN in Education programme, the first and only newspaper with an educational programme in the country.

This year approximately 1,000 of the most competitive schools from across Pakistan will be participating in the competition.

Over 300 students from 50 schools from Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur, Layyah, Mailsi and Jhang are participating in the two-day Multan Pool Rounds being held on Oct 7 and 8.

The competition will be conducted in three age groups -- 9-11 years, 12-14 years and 15-17 years.

Three students from each group will qualify to participate in the Lahore Regional Championship which will be held on Oct 31 in Lahore.

This competition is being organised by the DAWN Media Group in partnership with the United States Embassy, Islamabad. Judges are provided by the Oxford University Press.
