KARACHI: Two policemen were shot dead in the Bahadurabad area on Thursday afternoon, according to officials of the New Town police station.

They said that Head Constable Abdul Ghaffar, 31, and Constable Pervez Ali, 35, were patrolling the area on a motorcycle when armed bikers targeted them near Char Minar Chowrangi.

The policemen sustained critical wounds and were transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared them dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency department. The police said both policemen wore bullet-proof jackets but the killers pumped bullets in their heads from close range. Investigators collected seven spent bullet casings of 0.9mm pistol from the crime scene.

Abdul Ghaffar, a resident of Yusuf Goth, New Karachi, originally hailed from Larkana, while Pervez, a resident of Chapal Garden in Gulshan, belonged to Garhi Yasin, Shikarpur.
