ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday stressed upon the need for timely completion of energy projects to overcome the prevailing energy crisis in the country.

Chairing a high-level meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy at his official residence, Nawaz Sharif ordered maintaining an enhanced inter-ministerial coordination for early completion of such projects besides adhering to relevant laws in this regard.

"Transparency and adherence to relevant laws and rules must be given top priority in all energy projects," he said.

Earlier during the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the status of projects, especially projects earmarked under the umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

"China is a great friend and has tremendously justified the time tested friendship by heavily investing in Pakistan, especially in power projects, which would certainly resolve the most important issue of energy shortage in Pakistan," said the Prime Minister.

The Premier was informed that apart from speedy work on the energy related projects, work on establishing transmission lines is also underway for effective power distribution while Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources briefed the Prime Minister on import and subsequent provision LNG to power sector.

Expressing confidence on the progress made on energy projects, the Prime Minister directed that quality and standard must not be comprised at any cost.

The meeting was attended by Finace Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi , Minister for Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Water & Power Khawaja Asif ,Secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources Division Arshad Mirza , Secretary Water & Power Division Mr. Younus Dhaga and senior officers of Prime Minister Office.
