OKARA: MNA-elect Chaudhry Riazul Haq Juj has been contacted by both the PML-N and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to join their party while his family and close supporters are urging him to maintain his independent status.
Late on Tuesday, PTI central organiser Chaudhry Sarwar and Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mahmoodur Rashid arrived in the city and met Mr Juj in the presence of his uncle, the president of the Okara Chamber of Commerce and Industry and PTI MPA Chaudhry Masood Shafqat Rubera.
Sources said both leaders offered Juj a top slot in the Punjab PTI cadre.
Mr Juj, who won the by-elections for NA-144 on Oct 11 with a huge margin, told the visitors that they were consulting their voters, supporters and family elders on this issue.
PTI ticket holder for the NA-144 by-poll Ashraf Sohna was ignored by the visiting party leaders.
Mr Sohna told Dawn PTI senior leaders’ efforts to woo Mr Juj would be of no avail as the MNA-elect and his family had their own priorities.
On Wednesday, Mr Juj received calls from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI chief Imran Khan who congratulated him on his election success.
Sources said the PML-N had offered him a federal ministry if he joined the ruling party.
The sources say the MNA-elect is being told by his friends to stand independent till local council elections as most of the local council candidates for rural and urban union councils and wards supported him in the by-poll. Only those on PML-N tickets opposed him.
Also, Mr Juj and PTI MPA Shafquat Masood Rubera had pledged to move jointly in the future politics. Mr Rubera, who faces action from his party for supporting Mr Juj in the election, met with Mr Khan at Zaman Park. Rubera’s friends say the show cause notice would be settled down at the district party level.
It is also learned the PTI leadership contacted Rubera’s father-in-law, former provincial minister Rai Ejaz Ahmad, and discussed the steps to settle the show cause notice issue as the PTI was more interested in retaining Rubera in the party and winning over Mr Juj through the MPA.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy offered Sydney Yates a federal judgeship if he would step aside for a senate seat in Illinois and give the votes to assure victory to senior senator Republican Everert Dirkson. Kennedy needed the senate minority leader to help him pass his legislation through the congress. This is not unusual in democratic politics. My father was a political insider who knew the deals that were being made in Chicago and Washington. Deals the Public does not need to know about.

WhOever take him will further dent party in okara. Both doesnt learn a lesson. Pti awarded ticket to some one who landed 3 months ago. Prefered over old members. Now if they take juj wont it effect pti and its old members? Lesson was clear, give tickets to old members. The story of juj published clearly states that he won with money.
Pmln gave ticket to son of deseated. This juj also asked for ticket and result is clear that party workers supported juj and refused son . Now if they take juj in then wont it be a problem for old workers?

Hang on a second - the PTI fielded a PMLN turncoat in this election.
That person only joined PTI a few months ago.
Now that their own candidate lost, they are going after the winner.
So PTI is not about ideology - it is just about power.

PTI attracting JUJ on the basis of winning. I believe Imran Khan once said I will thoroughly review every candidate before allocating him ticket in party. But who cares the ideology, first PTI gave ticket of PPP corrupt to win the seat and now begging JUJ to join PTI so that he can enable Imran Khan to grab power position.

If this guy joins either party, he should do the honourable thing and resign.
He has 'stolen' the peoples mandate by 'lying' to them that he is an independent.
There must be some rules put in place to avoid such eventualities - namely that if you win, you cannot join any other party 'officially' for a certain period of time.
Otherwise, parties are getting two bites at the same cherry - once by fielding their own candidate, and secondly by enticing the independent guy that wins to join them.
Well done PMLN, PTI and more importantly the 'Independent'Mr Juj for make a mockery of the political system (again).

What matters the most is who is at the top. IK is an honest and a patriotic leader. PTI is focusing on systemic short comings which is the right long-term priority for the country. KP has the highest satisfaction rating of all provinces. Mr. Juj will do well to join PTI.

some people commenting PMLN is a better choice? this better choice just destroyed our economy. Exports in first quarter of current Fiscal year is down by 14%. CM punjab has invested on roads in lahore like anything yet achieved nothing. Unemployment is going up.
If by bringing other MNA into PTI, PTI govt can deliver then lottas are accepted.

Imran Khan had another candidate in Okara which only got 7,000 votes. Now Imran Khan is trying to ignore him and attracting JUJ. This only means Imran is after power and nothing else, what matters most to Imran is that only a person is important who either has money or who can get him win seats. What is ideology and what is screening of candidates before they join PTI, unfortunately Imran forgot it. After all he is same like others, only after power. All slogans of change, corruption free, justice are now somewhere in books but on ground my word!!! seeing Imran khan's eagerness to reach to P.M is sometimes a pity to say the least.

He is an egoist and we know such a person cannot be successful in politics. He was a Middle class person until Musharraf brought him to control Punjab by aiming to dilute the local identities and giving power to those who do not associate with Punjab. Now half of Sugar mills belong to Him. He controls the dairy business. He became a Billionaire by joining politics. Mr Kasuri on the other hand control Beacon houses and private education of Pakistan. Shah Mehmood Qureshi is running a Fiefdom in South Punjab. Hamza Abbasi belong from Abbasi family and interestingly his family owns hundreds of Mazaraas and his mother is a former PPP MNA. So infact PTI is a status quo and looters are there in this party as well.

Issue here is that people of pakistan thinks everything is either black or white in politics but that is not the case any where. Please don't make things up and attribute them to me.
I am more than happy to defend what I have said - and having been an avid reader of Dawn for many years, I have NEVER EVER said anything to imply that PMLN or PPPP are tolerable, kosher, halal or whatever.
All I am saying is that it is a bit rich for PTI to talk about change, anti-corruption and so on, whilst at the same time they are trying to get this individual into the PTI.
Is that not corruption? Is it not dishonest and fraudulent for a person to stand as an Independent, and as soon as he wins to join one of the bigger parties.
If PMLN were after him, I could understand given their previous track record - but if PTI are doing the same, then for me at least the whole corruption rhetoric rings extremely hollow.
That's my point sir - and nothing else.

We have all long been hearing the likes of PML-N,l and the likes of PPP are status-quo parties - opportunsitic and un-principled. The actions of PTI in the last 2/3 years have shown clearly it is the same if not any worse than the established pakistani political parties.
PTI willingly accepted Ashraf Sohna from PPP only weeks ago and now having seen thr results of the elections have decided to dump him in no time..opportunism at it's best!

All my friends.. Its reality of politics of pakistan. One can not win the election without electibles. You people just read the history of indo-pak, after the defeat in 1937 election,the All India Muslim League had chosen the path to attract the electibles accross the subcontinent. It does not matter who you include in your party, but matter the discipline in your party.

Unfortunately this is not 1937 - when Jinnah was trying to create a homeland for the Muslims. Even then the people he put up as candidates would have been those that shared his ideology of 'creating a separate country' - and that was the binding discipline within the party.
We are now in 2015 - and the challenges of today are very different from 1937. And no party today has a real ideology either - despite their hollow claims.

In fact when Sohna joined PTI at the end of June 2015, Manzoor Wattoo said (via Dawn) that 'joining PTI is a decision which he will regret in the days to come...the respect he had in the PPP he would wish for in the PTI."
Sad to say it, but Wattoo has been proved 100% correct.

@Tanweer Khan - So you expect angels will descend from Heaven and IK should give ticket to them? Please be realistic in your approach. Our public especially in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan don't vote for an educated yet poor man, they vote those who have financial clout or authority to protect them from police and other bullies. For example in my village IK gave ticket to a very civilized, educated person but what happened in elections? He got only 16000 votes as compared to PML-N thug in that area who got around 90,000. How can an educated, civilized person compete with such people? Remember this is Pakistan not UK.

I don't expect anything of the sort.
All I expect is that people should stick to what they believe in.
From what you are saying, it is impossible for PTI to compete with PMLN - because PMLN are thugs, corrupts etc.
And in order to defeat PMLN, PTI has to adopt the same tactics.
Whilst morally wrong, I wouldn't have any problem with that approach from the PTI, if indeed that is the only way to win the votes.
My problem is that IK/PTI claim to be whiter than white; yet they are trying to get the same so-called 'thugs' into their fold, as the PMLN are.
It is the hypocrisy of it that perturbs me; not the ground reality that a decent man from your area didn't get elected.
From what you are saying when you say 'please be realistic in your approach' implies that in order to win, you will have to become corrupt as otherwise you stand no chance.
If that is the case, then I am sorry, but I am unable to distinguish how PTI is actually any different than the other parties.
