ABBOTTABAD: The district council Abbottabad in a special session on Monday adopted three resolutions, disapproving tehsil council budget, condemning barring of district nazim from attending a function at Nathiagali and absence of government officials from the council’s session.

However, later opposition members in a hurriedly called press conference alleged that the resolutions were passed in haste and no counting was done by the council convener. They maintained that no proper procedure was followed to table the resolutions and get them approved from the house.

Opposition leader Ali Khan Jadoon flanked by other members of the district council warned the district nazim and naib nazim not to run the council affairs ‘in violation of the rules and regulations’, otherwise they would resist it inside as well as outside the house.

The district council also approved the names of two committees -- code of conduct and finance committees -- amid objections by the opposition members.

It may be recalled that district nazim Sardar Sher Bahadar and naib nazim Shaukat Tanoli were not allowed to attend the ceremony regarding handing over of rest houses at Nathiagali despite the issuance of invitation cards by the tourism department, the organisers of the function.

Sher Bahadar is facing reference filed by the PTI KP chapter in the election commission for violating party discipline by switching loyalties and joining hands with PML-N councillors to form the district government in Abbottabad.

ARRESTED: Abbottabad police, during a search operation on Monday, arrested 21 suspected persons from different localities of the city and also impounded 25 bikes without number plates.

The search operation was conducted jointly by the city and cantonment police.

Police have also arrested some Afghan nationals who were residing in different areas without legal documents.

Cases were registered against house owners for not providing details of the tenants to the police.

SP Abbottabad Ejaz Ahmed said that security in the city had been enhanced for Ashura.
