CHITRAL: After a respite of two months, flashfloods triggered by over two days of rain have again hit a number of villages and washed away roads in upper parts of Chitral district.

Residents said on Tuesday a number of houses in Green Lusht village were inundated while Chitral-Booni road was closed to vehicular traffic as it was washed away by flashfloods in Reshun village.

The Green Lusht village had already lost more than 40 houses and about half of the agricultural land to the floods in July, while the remaining land was rendered useless due to falling of heavy boulders from the mountains.

The villages of Ragh, Koghuzi, Mroi and Barenis were also hit by the flood where a number of maize fields were also swept away by gushing waters.

However, no loss of human life was reported from any flood-hit area as the people had already fled to safer places.

Executive engineer of the communication and works department, Maqbool Azam, told Dawn the roads at four different points had been reopened to traffic while heavy machinery was being moved to Reshun to repair the damaged road by Wednesday (today).
