SUKKUR: Mourning processions were taken out in many Sindh towns on Friday which passed through their traditional routes and terminated at the appointed places peacefully amid tight security.
In Sukkur, the 550-year-old ‘Shama Gul’ procession was taken out at midnight of Thursday-Friday in Rohri town near here in which a large number of mourners from different parts of the country participated under the watch of 5,000 security personnel.
The administration had installed walkthrough gates at Mehfil Shah-i-Karbala Iraq Imambargah where the majlis was held to scan mourners before letting them enter. The Sukkur SSP and Rangers personnel were monitoring the mourning procession and majlis through helicopters and CCTV cameras.
The tazia was brought out after 1:30am after which lights were put out and proceedings were carried on in darkness in accordance with centuries-old traditions during which the faithful offered prayers in silence as a mark of respect for the martyrs of Karbala.
In Mirpurkhas, 9th Muharram processions were taken out from different Imambargahs amid strict security.
The main procession emerged from Haidery Imambargah in Satellite Town carrying Alam and Zuljanah and marched through main roads before reaching Makhan Shah Imambargah where a majlis was held.
Similar processions were taken out on Thursday night and Friday in Badin, Tando Bago, Talhar, Matli, Golarchi, Tando Ghulam Ali, Kadhan, Khoski, Shadi Large, Nindo Shahar, Pangrio, Rajo Khanani and other towns of the district.
