QUETTA: Five people, including three children, were killed on Saturday as lightning struck their houses in Balochistan as heavy rains and thunderstorms lashed several villages.

Lightning struck a house in Wam Tangi area of Harnai district in Balochistan, causing rooms within the house to catch fire.

“Three minor girls, aged between three and five, were killed due to lightning strike on the house,” said an official from the Levies.

The Levies official added that two boys and a girl were also injured in the incident.

“The rooms of the house caught fire with most people managing to evacuate in time,” stated the Levies official.

The injured children were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment by police and Levies officials.

In a separate incident, lightning struck a house in Dukki tehsil of Loralai district and killed two people.

Another person was injured in the incident, and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
