Yasir Shah spins his way to second in ICC Test Rankings

Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah has risen up to the second spot in the ICC Test Rankings released on Tuesday morning.
Yasir, who has achieved the number-two ranking for the first time in his career, picked up eight for 180 in Pakistan’s 178 runs victory against England at Dubai on Monday, which has earned him 25 points.
The winning performance has taken the 29-year-old above the pace trio of England’s James Anderson and Stuart Broad, and New Zealand’s Trent Boult.
Shah recently also became the fastest Pakistani bowler to take 50 Test wickets and currently has 69 victims in just 11 Test outings.
Given that Yasir is still in the qualification period for bowlers, it is likely that he will be able to further reduce the 78-point gap with world number-one Dale Steyn if his extraordinary run of form continues in the Sharjah Test against England which commences on November 1.
Younis Khan, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Asad Shafiq have also advanced in the latest rankings after good performances in the Dubai Test.
Younis has returned to the top five in fifth position following knocks of 56 and 118 while Misbah has moved up five places to 11th following his scores of 102 and 87.
Asad Shafiq also achieved a career-high ranking of 12th after he scored 83 and 87.
For this performance, Asad earned 43 points, which, in turn, has put him ahead of Virat Kohli, Ross Taylor, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brendon McCullum and Faf du Plessis.
Beating England at the Dubai Test has given Pakistan an excellent opportunity to achieve the second place in the ICC Test Rankings.
However, to make this happen, it will have to win the Sharjah Test.
In this case, Pakistan will join Australia on 106 points but will be ranked above Australia when the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point.

Don't think so. He is a wrist spinner and impossible to chuck. Yasir has turned into an outstanding bowler and what a difference he made to pakistan team fortunes. Tough conditions will test him and he has all qualities of being a fighter.

The English players attitude showed that they dislike Pakistan, did anyone notice that Cook, not even once mentioned Pakistan in his post match presentation, and even in his interview he gave to the BBC, Whereas Misbah thanked the opposition, he and Root kept on referring to Yasir Shah as "their leggie". This shows arrogance, Pak will win the series for sure, either 2-0, or 1-0. What I am more afraid of is, when Pak tour England next year, something will be made an issue. This is keeping in mind the history.

Here is the answer of sidelining Saeed Ajmal and who says that Pakistan don't have backup players. I would suggest to those so called cricket experts who always try to downgrade Pakistan that this is the team that not playing international cricket at their home grounds since 2009 but till this date their performance is much better than so many other teams who have full advantage of home ground and crowd but their performance graph keep going down.

And Yasir Shah was kept on the sidelines by the coach Waqar Younus in the 2015 WC. The team selection played Yasir against India who can easily cope with spin while rested him against WL who are suspect to spin. All this time Warne has been saying that Yasir is a genius. Why do Pakistan persists with Waqar Younus.

Misbah, please include Fawad Alam, you can trust him more than Shaoib Malik, Shah Masood and Hafeez.
He will score 3 times out of 4 matches or may be 3 times out of 3. if you give him confident and fair chances. So far no captain gave him him fair chance. But Misbah you can do that, you are an excellent person out of corruption and racisim.
But other will score one time out of 6 or 8 matches

Good point. However I don't agree on the "tough conditions will test him part". I think he has already proven his mettle. The Dubai pitch was very innocuous when you compare it to other UAE tracks or pass Dubai pitches. Yasir worked for all his wickets in this test.

@Karachi kee Awaz I completely agree with you. There is no more competition in every place than ever before. I love Fawad Alam especially for the test matches. The problem is our batting order from spot 3 to spot 7 (Azher, Younus, Misbah, Asad Shafiq, and Sarfraz) areunchangeble at this stage until Misbah retires. The uncertain position for now is of Hafeez I think. Shoib Malik will be rested once Azher is back in the team. Maybe we can try Fawad in place of Shoib bu it wont be fair again to remove Fawad once Aazher is available. What do you think? Or replace Hafeez with Fawad as opener. I wont change Shan Masood for now as he is young and even if he is replaced, shall be replaced with new blood.

No doubt he is really a good bowler, as his performance is showing. But his and whole teams' real test will in England when they tour in July 2016. Yunus, Misbah & Co. will be tested by Anderson and Broad on pacy and bouncy pitches, although Yasir will be successful on English pitches also as England is so poor to face quality spinners.

@Sarai Alamgir England have identified a formula through which they can win against Pakistan after getting few mauling from them in the 90s. They know if they can create some issue and hit them personally then Pakistan will break down mentally and in process will lose. They are one who put a lot of emphasis on such things in their trainings. Last few series have proven that. So Pakistan need one really good manager on the tour to England perhaps someone as strong as Imran Khan type.

Please get rid of Shoaib Malik and include Fawad Alam. Shoaib is not going to score in the next 6-8 matches after he scored his double ton (that too after getting three dropped catches by English fielders). See, he couldn't score in the last three innings.
