LAHORE: A policeman committed suicide allegedly by shooting himself in his chin in Gulberg here on Thursday.

Police said trainee ASI Zubair Khalid, 30, father of two, had been serving in the police for seven years and was deputed at the Liberty facilitation centre about three months back.

Khalid snatched the rifle from a constable and shot himself in the chin. He suffered critical injuries and was taken to Jinnah Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police shifted the body to a morgue for an autopsy and were waiting for the heirs to complete legal formalities.

Gulberg SHO Yousuf Butt said the subscription recovered from the pocket showed that the ASI had been taking medicines for psychological problems for more than two years.

IGP Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera took notice of the incident and sought its report from CCPO Amin Wains.
