KARACHI: Karachi Grammar School (KGS) successfully defended their title by lifting the group champion’s trophy at the conclusion of the 23rd Palmolive Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship, organised by the Karachi Women’s Swimming Association (KWSA), at the Karachi Parsi Institute on Sunday.

KGS finished on top with a massive tally of 374 points; Karachi Club were second with 131 points and Bay View Academy third with 111.

The two-day event saw several records breaking as 224 swimmers from 14 institutions in different age groups competed in a total of 50 events of various distance lengths.

Special swimmers Farah Vohra and Jasmine Sharif, who have represented Pakistan in several international events including the Special Olympics were also a part of the championship and bagged medals, too.

Ronak Lakhani, chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, the chief guest on the occasion, gave away the prizes and medals. While congratulating all the swimmers, she also lauded KWSA for promoting women’s swimming all over Pakistan.

Age 16 and under 50M freestyle: Areeba Shaikh (Karachi American School [KAS]),

Open age 100M freestyle: Areeba Shaikh (KAS),

Open age 200M butterfly: Miraal Haque (The Indus Academy),

Open age 50M breaststroke: Anushe Engineer (KGS).

Eight and under: Saba Amin (KAS)

10 and under: Fatima Lotia (Bay View Academy)

12 and under: Ramsha Imran (Karachi Club) and Alisa Motiwala, 21 medals (KGS)

14 and under: Simrah Nasir (KGS)

16 and under: Areeba Shaikh (KAS)

Open age group: Areeba Shaikh (KAS) and Miraal Haque (The Indus Academy)

Overall group champions: KGS (374 points), Karachi Club (131 points) and Bay View Academy (111 points).
