SCHEDULED banks’ borrowing rose 4.74pc to Rs1,975.212bn in the week ending October 23, according to recently released central bank data.
On a year-over-year basis, the borrowing figure was up a significant 163pc from last year’s corresponding figure of Rs750.339bn.
Similarly, borrowings by commercial banks also rose 4.84pc to Rs1,947.049bn in the week, against the previous week’s level of Rs1,857.226bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs28.163bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs28.508bn.
According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ending October 23, gross advances of all scheduled banks stood at Rs4,631.52bn, up 0.23pc over the preceding week’s figure of Rs4,620.89bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs4,312.59bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 7.4pc.
Borrowings by commercial banks rose 4.84pc to Rs1947.049bn in the week under review
Advances by all commercial banks rose 0.22pc to Rs4,474.685bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs4,464.856bn. Advances by specialised banks stood at Rs156.835bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs156.652bn.
Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs6,525.227bn in the week under review, down a marginal 0.02pc from the preceding week’s figure of Rs6,526.5bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs4,424.502bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 47.5pc.
Investments of all commercial banks stood at Rs6,495.224bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs6,496.255bn, depicting a decrease of 0.02pc. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs4,391.551bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 47.9pc.
Investments of all specialised banks stood at Rs30.002bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs30.245bn.
Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs12,953.023bn in the week ending October 23, higher by 0.78pc over the preceding week’s figure of Rs12,852.396bn. The current week’s figure is higher by 24.55pc when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs10,400.076bn.
Total assets of all commercial banks stood at 12,746.981bn in the week, up 0.8pc over the previous week’s figure of Rs12,646.331bn. Total assets of all specialised banks stood at Rs206.043bn in the week over the previous week’s figure of Rs206.065bn.
Deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks decreased 0.22pc to Rs8,993.732bn in the week under review, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs9,013.407bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs8,019.956bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 12.14pc.
Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs8,955.299bn in the week, against the preceding week’s level of Rs8,974.625bn, also depicting a decline of 0.22pc.
Deposits and other accounts of all specialised banks stood at Rs38.433bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs38.783bn.
Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks increased by 5.94pc to Rs753.3bn in the week ending October 23, against the earlier week’s figure of Rs711.037bn. The current week’s figure is higher by 13pc when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs666.603bn.
Cash and balances with treasury banks of all commercial banks stood at Rs751.446bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs709.259bn, depicting an increase of 6pc. Cash and balances with treasury banks of all specialised banks stood at Rs1.854bn with treasury banks of all, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs1.778bn.
Other liabilities of all scheduled banks stood at Rs443.843bn in the week under review against the preceding week’s figure of Rs401.013bn, showing an increase of 10.7pc. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs387.753bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 14.5pc.
Other liabilities of all commercial banks rose 5.51pc to Rs423.106bn in the week over the previous week’s figure of Rs401.013bn. The current week’s figure is higher by 26.6pc over last year’s corresponding figure of Rs334.297bn.
Net assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs1,305.384bn in the week ending October 23, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs1,296.635bn, depicting a rise of 0.67pc. The current week’s figure is higher by 25.8pc when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs1,037.59bn.
