MULTAN: Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana says the Vehari Campus of the Bahauddin Zakariya University was established without permission of the provincial government and syndicate and a report to this effect has been sought.
The governor was talking to the media at Circuit House on Sunday after a meeting with vice chancellors and other officials of all four universities of the city.
The university is already in the news sine NAB is probing affairs of its Lahore campus which was also set up without approval.
The governor said universities should improve their management. “The standard of BZU has been declining for years and there is a need to improve it.”

He said the BZU former vice chancellor had made 79 appointments a few days before his retirement despite a ban.
He said a thorough inquiry into the recent appointments in the BZU’s Vehari Campus would be carried out, too.
“I being the chancellor of the BZU want to see the university a high quality and exemplary institution,” the governor said.
He said issues of all the public sector universities would be resolved on a priority basis so that students could get education in a healthy environment.
Earlier in his briefing during the meeting, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Agriculture University VC Dr Iqrar Ahmed said as many as 934 students were enrolled with the varsity.
He said a selection board was being arranged to overcome the shortage of teachers.
He said although the government approved the PC-I of the varsity, “some land of the university is still under the control of illegal occupants.”
Women University VC Dr Shahida Jabeen said 3,150 students were getting education in the institute. “There are 45 PhDs and 86 other teachers.”
She demanded that the government give the adjoining 73 acre land to the university.
In-charge Coordination Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology Dr Gul Hameed Awan said 501 students were enrolled, “however the university is facing shortage of building space and hostels while establishment of technical laboratories and computer labs are also required.”
Talking to the media, the governor said steps were being taken to add 600 beds to Nishtar Hospital besides bringing about improvement in the emergency ward.
He said the issues of the Multan Kidney Centre, Children Complex Hospital and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology were also being resolved on a priority basis.
He said he had directed the authorities concerned to make the kidney centre functional at the earliest besides resolving the issues of the burn unit and cancer treatment centre.
He said computerised reporting centres were being established in the police stations of the district that would help address the public complaints without any delay.
He said the issue of journalists’ colony would be resolved soon.
Meanwhile, the governor visited the residence of Syed Asad Murataza Gilani to condole with his family his death in Mina stampede incident.
He also met a SOS Village team and presented a cheque of Rs5 million as donation to the delegation.
