RAWALPINDI. Dec 26: Justice Abdul Shakoor Piracha, the Judge of the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, has observed that police interference in suits of civil nature must be stopped with immediate effect.
Hearing a constitutional petition of Ms Khalida Amin Anjum, the LHC Judge observed “If police is given free hand to register cases of its choice then we shall have to close the doors of the courts” he pointed out.
“Police can’t be given the role of prosecutor in the cases of civil nature,” he added.
The LHC Judge made it clear that the police had no power to convert a civil suit into a case of criminal proceedings.
Dr Babar Awan, counsel for the petitioner, contended that Maj (rtd) Zubair Latif Bajwa, ex-director of anti-corruption Punjab, has influenced the police to convert a civil suit of Rs 4.5 million into a case of criminal proceedings.
The High Court took serious notice of the complaint and ordered the police to stop its interference in the cases of civil nature.—PPI
