KOHAT: The police on Wednesday arrested 10 Afghan nationals for staying illegally in different parts of Kohat and 164 tenants and owners of houses who had not registered themselves with the nearest police stations as per law.

The crackdown was carried out in the jurisdiction of police stations of Cantonment, city, Junglekhel, Shakardarra, Riaz Mohammad Shaheed, Jarma, Gumbat, Lachi Ustarzai, Bilitang and KDA township. The Afghans were arrested under 14 Foreign Act and sent to prison for onward expulsion to their homeland. A press release issued by the Kohat police said that all the Afghans and unregistered house owners and occupants had been ignoring warnings since January. The police also claimed to have arrested an alleged terrorist wanted by the Peshawar and Kohat police from Lachi tehsil here on Wednesday.

According to officials, the police raided a house in Hassan Banda and arrested the alleged outlaw identified as Hamidur Rehman. They said that the arrested person was involved in kidnapping of a businessman in 2013 in Peshawar besides other cases. The police have registered a case against him.
