Sri Lanka finalised as hosts for Pakistan-India series

Sri Lanka has been finalised as the venue for Pakistan's 'home' series against India after an agreement was finally reached between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday.
An official announcement is due at the end of this month after the boards get permission from their respective governments but according to a source there will be no further deliberations on the venue of the much-awaited Pakistan-India series.
The meeting between PCB chief Shaharyar Khan and BCCI president Shashank Manohar on Sunday ended in a deadlock when the issue of the venue was raised.
“Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were considered as the venues and finally it was agreed that Sri Lanka was the right choice to host the Indo-Pak series,” said the source.
The series, comprising three ODIs and two T20s, is expected to kick off on December 20, most likely in Pallekele or Colombo.
“PCB can benefit from the Indo-Pak series in Sri Lanka by earning up to Rs3 billion ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in February next year,” revealed the source.
The newly-elected president of the BCCI Shashank Manohar, who is in Dubai to familiarise with the working of the International Cricket Council (ICC) as its new chairman, invited PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan for a meeting at the ICC headquarters on Sunday.
The meeting was also attended by PCB Executive Committee head Najam Sethi and Giles Clarke, the president of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the head of a task force formed to expedite the return of cricket to Pakistan.
Pakistan and India have not played a bilateral series since 2007.
Under the MoU both the boards had agreed in 2014, six series were scheduled between 2015 and 2023, with four series to be hosted by Pakistan.
But all series were subject to clearance from the respective governments.
The December-January series comprises two Tests, five One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals but with time running out the series is likely to be shortened to limited over matches.

This is good to hear. Its not ideal but its reasonable. Would have been extremely disappointed if Pakistan had agreed to play in India but welcome this opportunity to see the two sides play in Sri Lanka. As sad as I am that we cannot host in Pakistan, it would have been a lot worse if it had ended in a death of our guests (sri lanka). Alhamdulillah we are cleaning up our house and InshAllah will see cricket and prosperity return to Pakistan.
Sometimes we forget that cricket is just a game, there are many other things we could focus on.

How silly it is for Pakistan to continue it home series' out of Pakistan rather than trying at least one venue that will offer guaranteed security. With security situation improving, they could do it with some guarantee from COAS but PCB is again proving its shortsightedness. BTW, what is the purpose of PSL when it is not happening in Pakistan?

Instead of playing in Sri Lanka as a Pakistani I would prefer to play in India. If PCB do a solid agreement with BCCI to share the revenue of the FULL series not partial then PCB can earn much more what they going to earn in Sri Lanka.

It's an excellent news for cricket lovers. Why cannot Pakistan/India have series similar to the Ashes - play one year in Pakistan and next year in India. Both countries can generate more revenue beside getting best of the best for their teams - the ones who can deal with pressure of arch rival and home crowd. Hope to see some real good matches.

I don't see how games in Sri Lanka could be filled with fans. Heck they were barely filled even when PK played Sri Lanka. Obviously most of the revenue will come from TV rights but what better then to play in UAE or even UK where there are steams of PK and Indian fans. This was a Pakistan home series consisting 2 tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20s but now it is being cut down to 3 ODIs and 2 T20s. Pakistan should only accept it if India promises to play rest of our home matches in England in the coming summer and there by honors its commitment to full series as per agreed in the MOU. Now that the shortened series is to be played in Sri Lanka, the host nation will ask for a part of the revenue too, so Pakistan will only be left with a fraction of what the full series could have earned.

PCB folds over. Money talks. PCB should not have accepted a shortened tour. Even if it did, we should have also agreed on the timing and format of next series. India only wants to do the minimum so that Pakistan plays the World Cup in India and PCB is only interested in making money and not upholding national pride. This is messed up. The Indian board has again managed to bully the world to its will. Doesn't want to play in UAE because it is afraid it's weak team will get clobbered even by Pakistan (not in their best form lately). The tests were an important part of the tour and it is sad that they have been scrapped. I would rather that the series not happen at all than let the Indian board bully us.

So finally the fee dispute is settled. Since Pakistan wanted to keep all the gate collection coming from UAE citing high charges for organizing matches there and wanted India to have 0% share... This should work for Pakistan as it would cost lower in Sri-Lanka and boards can share the revenue coming out of gates.

Although it's not clear what is the term and conditions now but I assume BCCI must have offer money to PCB to compensate their earning from playing in UAE. BCCI now would pay SL to host the matches and would sell the telecast rights and make money. Pakistan would get to call it their "home" series. Most important is, PCB would get money for which it was desperate and was jumping up and down everyday. You may also hear the argument of player security and all but we all know it is just a sham argument. It was all about money.

SL is in same timezone as India which would mean more viewership in India for this series which would mean more ads, more revenue , more profit. India, Pakistan and SL, all would make good money on that.
