Sattar, Rizvi among 9 MQM leaders booked for 'violations' during rally

KARACHI: Nine leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have been booked for violating the loudspeaker act, section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 'harassing commuters' here on Thursday night.
According to police sources, the cases have been registered at the Soldier Bazaar police station against Farooq Sattar, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Nasreen Jalil, Wasay Jalil, Faisal Sabzwari, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Waseem Akhtar and other leaders of MQM.
The case number 416/15 has been registered in connection with the MQM’s rally earlier on Thursday through which they registered their protest against the arrest of their party workers as well as raids conducted by Rangers at their party offices.

The FIR cites that 1,500 to 2,000 workers of the MQM gathered at MA Jinnah Road to protest against the government, during which the Loud Speaker Act was violated as party leaders made speeches.
Police also booked the MQM leaders for creating hurdles for the general public through blocking roads. The case was registered under section 147/149/341/ Sindh Sound System section 6/7.
The rally was turned into a sit-in at Numaish Chowrangi after police barred the protesters from moving towards the Red Zone.
The protest rally, started from Liaquatabad, was scheduled to culminate at the Rangers Headquarters located near Sindh Assembly, but police stopped the participants near Numaish Chowrangi.
Later the sit-in ended after MQM leader Amir Khan ordered the party supporters and workers to disperse peacefully.
MQM claims that some forces are trying to portray that MQM follows the politics of violence and crime.

The establidhment is trying to change the general public opinion and perception in Karachi but MQM has gone more stronger and more aggressive than before ever, as people of the urban Sindh have seen the atrocities and humiliation at the hands of law enforcement agrncied of their beloved ones. Why are Pakistani's still living in the 1960's and 1970's when the advanced world has moved on to do better things through better education, by educating the uneducated.
It is very discouraging to see these kind of of old fashioned way of arm twisting by very old fashioned way to suppress the political and good representation limiting the freedom and rights of a minority community.
Are we still not yet grown as an independent nation and yet not understanding how to make progress without subjugation of weaker and minority communities. When there is uprising it is always due to suppression, and oppression of minority communities.Let the law and order be managed by legislative system not by banishment of minorities.
Let Pakistan grow as a free and democratic state without using the force that's unnecessary. Let democracy prevail. Let people of Pakistan live in harmony under rule of law and good governance. As a Muslim state we must set an example of being just and fair nation.

i am starting to feel sympathy for MQM now. I havent heard any case registered against PTI or any other party for similar sit ins or rallies. LEAs may be biased against MQM. I am really confused.
and it was a huge rally as per Dr. Shahid Masood. so may be authorities should listen to so many ppl.

this is ridiculous, PTI gave a dharna for months and were not booked for loud music or anti-government speeches.
On a different note, agencies or rangers should respect a political party's vote bank whether they are good or bad as people still vote for these political parties, MQM has come on top despite having rangers or army being deployed during elections.
Its time people accept rather than live in denial.

@iffi correct your knowledge first.. MQM has never been in power. Learn the meaning of power. Merely being in coalition does not mean you have full control, just like merely sitting IN the car does not give you control of the car. The only 2 times MQM had the most power was during Mayor Farooq Sattar and Mayor Mustafa Kamal and the history/world is witness of development, peace and progress of Karachi.

This is very important to enforce the municipal act particularly on noise nuisance and loudspeakers use in public as the azans one after the other with loudspeakers from thousands of mosques that is another sort of noise pollution.May it help the MQM to follow the laws and when Karachiites will do it then rest of the country will too
