VALLETTA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday met French President Francois Hollande in the Maltese capital, Valletta, and expressed his desire to cooperate with France in counter-terrorism and intelligence sharing.

Meeting the French President along the sidelines of 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), the premier once again condemned terrorist attacks in Paris and offered condolences over the loss of precious lives in the attacks,

The premier mentioned that Pakistan too had lost thousands of lives in its fight against terrorism and suffered economic losses, but in the past two years, the country had made notable gains in the fight against terrorism as the nation stood united in the face of terrorists.

"The military operation Zarb-e-Azb achieved remarkable results," he added.

Nawaz Sharif said Pakistani regarded the militant Islamic State (IS) group as a terrorist organisation and stressed the need for working together to find political solutions to the crisis.

President Hollande expressed gratitude for the Pakistani government and people for their moral support in the wake of tragic Paris incident.

He said France was appreciative of the courage and resilience of Pakistani people for braving terrorism and extremism for long.

In the deadliest violence to strike France since World War II, a wave of coordinated attacks left more than 128 dead in scenes of carnage in Paris earlier in November. The militant Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The assailants struck at least six very different venues, ranging from the national sports stadium to a pizzeria.
