QUETTA: The government of Balochistan has extended the policing powers of the Frontier Corps for three months in the district of Quetta. The powers of the paramilitary forces had expired on Nov 16.

A notification to extend the powers was issued on Dec 3.

The policing powers were given to the force by the federal government in 2013 on the orders of then prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf following the killing of 85 people in twin suicide attacks at the Alamdar Road area of Quetta.

The notification said that FC would exercise the powers as envisaged under section 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, and in doing so an officer of the force would also exercise all powers of police officers under the Criminal Procedure Code, 1889, in connection with prevention of terrorist acts of scheduled offences.
