All-Pakistan Amir Khan Boxing to feature top pugilists

KARACHI: Country’ top pugilists, who recently featured in the 35th National Boxing Championship in the city recently will be seen in action again when the all-Pakistan Amir Khan boxing tournament takes place at the Ustad Abdullah Baloch Stadium located inside the premises of Peoples Sports Complex from Dec 14 to 21, organisers said on Thursday.

Secretary of the Sindh Boxing Association (SBA) Asghar Baloch said the initiative has been taken by the Pakistan Rangers Sindh who is financing the event and staging it in collaboration with the SBA.

It is pertinent to mention that the DG Rangers Sindh Maj Gen Bilal Akbar had announced to sponsor the event in the name of celebrity boxer Amir Khan when the latter called on him during a visit to the city in the recent past.

He said 18 teams including affiliated units of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) and Sindh Whites, Sindh Police and Sindh Rangers will compete in the event.

Sindh will field two outfits in the event – Greens and Whites, he added.

The SBA secretary added that Rangers will provide up and down travelling allowance to non-departmental teams, daily allowance, food and accomodation besides lucrative cash prizes to the boxers.

Elaborating, he said the winner will earn Rs20,000 while runner up will receive Rs15,000. Every participant will get Rs5,000 as appearance money.
