ISLAMABAD: The western route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will be completed by December 2016, the parliamentary committee on CPEC was told here on Monday, however the parliamentarians from Balochistan are worried about the future of the province’s people after the project is completed.
The members coming out of the in-camera committee meeting told media persons that the most serious concern by parliamentarians of Balochistan was regarding demographic change in their province in the backdrop of the mega project.
“What we are worried about is to know that future of our nation,” said one parliamentarian.

First they complain that the project is not being given priority. Now when the government has allocated funds and work has been started, they are worried about demographics. What exactly is causing them this headache?? is it that they are afraid that the province will start developing, there may be new opportunities for employment and education for the people of Baluchistan, resulting in the decline of their lordship over the hapless people?? I hope the latter happens as soon as possible so that the real faces of these public figures and representatives of the people may be uncovered.

It's a valid concern. Pakistan needs to show more sensitivity.

Sir, if Lahore-Islamabad, PB-Faisalabad motorway and N-5 didnt hurt the other demographies of Pakistan, CPEC wont hurt Balochistan's either.

It is just an empty promise like the previous APC or some solid steps are being taken to materialize it, only time will tell us. Keeping in mind the previous track record of PM NS, I'm not much hopeful about the expediency and quality of work.

They will always talk negative with dishonesty.. In last term of the assembly, all the members were ministers. Not sure about this one. Demographic change is a major need to bridge the gaps created by these so called leaders. Distances among the masses will decrease. Federal capital is best example of Punjabis and Pashtoons coming together and differences are minimal due to much frequent communication.

These Baloch parlimentarians need to educate their masses so that they can get benefit from CPEC fully. This project will be very helpful to improve the economy of Baluchistan and other neglected areas - rather than worrying - they must support it.

@Usman I wish he could it, but lets not forget what he did with previous APC resolutions, moreover the rumours of eastern route as motorway and western one as simple highway is sufficient for a strong suspicions. This time he is putting the federation of Pakistan in s tumbling position.

Talking about provincial demographics in a democracy like Pakistan smacks of xenophobia. Any Pakistani from whatever province or ethnicity can settle in any part of Pakistan that they like.

To start with, it should be decided through a law that any workers coming from Karachi or else where and settling in Gwadar/ Baluchistan will only have a 1/3 voting right as compared to the locals and their coming generations and that the chief executive will always be a Baloch or Pashtun of the local origin.

I do not have any problem with criticism. in fact I welcome rightful criticism as I consider such criticism as beneficial gains when our friends manage to observe what we cannot see about ourselves. I see these as opportunities to be self-critical and address the problems that are rightfully pointed out. But criticism should not be for the sake of it. criticism is the food for the under achiever, so be sparing in using it.
Try to increase engineering colleges so that people can rightly benefit from developing infrastructure skills.
